Fuses in plugs

Following on from last time, I've recently heard that a manufacturer has apparently told a customer that the absence of a 13 amp fuse in a mains cable could lead to damage to the equipment. Oh no it can't.

A mains cable fuse's only function is to blow if the cable is accidentally cut. It can't protect the equipment. Every item of Hi-Fi / Home Cinema is protected by its own internal mains fuse.
